The Gilbert district governing board Tuesday night officially approved a recommendation from Mesquite High to hire Matt Gracey as the Wildcats next football coach.

The school announced Wednesday it has hired Cactus Shadows coach Chad DeGrenier as its next coach. DeGrenier will be the fourth coach in the 35-year history of the school.
Six weeks ago Mesa Mountain View put the clamps on Corona del Sol on the Aztecs home floor with a 49-40 win the night of the 5A state championship football games. On Tuesday night Corona returned the favor.
With guard Calaen Robinson playing his best all-around game of the season and the Aztecs defense clogging the middle after the first 12 minutes or so, Corona seized control and beat the Toros, 50-43, in a 5A Central Region game at Toro Gym.
Mesa High has played a significant part in state athletics with its long history and tradition. Football, basketball and wrestling have been highly successful sports to name a few.
A sport to be honored Tuesday night is one the school helped play a role in inaugurating in the state three decades ago -- boys soccer.
