Sahuaro went undefeated to capture the championship of the Sabino Capital Connect Tournament this past week. The Cougars jumped out to a 31-13 lead on Mingus in the championship game and held on for a 63-48 victory.
Sahuaro improved to 9-2 on the year thanks to a 56-50 win at Tucson High Thursday night. The victory moved the Cougars one win closer to the quick start (10-2) they experienced last year but the team is hoping to avoid the late-season collapse that saw them missing the playoffs for the first time since 2012.
Now, only a junior, Reyes broke the 1,000-point career mark and Loya reached 1,000 career points Friday night at Cholla and Galindo might match that total later this year. Things have changed.
