Girls hoops: Winslow 'Dogs knocks off Mogollon, 64-51

Down by four points at the end of the first quarter, the Winslow Lady Bulldogs turned in strong second and third quarters, to post a 64-51 victory over Mogollon in the Platinum Bracket of the Chandler Prep Girl's Basketball New Year's Classic at Chandler/Gilbert Community College gymnasium on Thursday.
Winslow advances into the second round, facing Sunrise Mountain, of Peoria, Arizona, at 1:30 p.m. today in Gilbert Christian High School gymnasium. The winner's and loser's of the Winslow-Sunrise Mountain contest will play another game this afternoon.
Mogollon led by four points, 18-14, at the end of the first quarter. Winslow warmed up in the second quarter, canning 16 points. Mogollon tallied seven points. The Lady Bulldogs led 30-25 at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs shot the lights out in the third quarter. Winslow canned 21 points and contained Mogollon to eight points. The Lady Bulldogs held a 51-33 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Mogollon made a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points to Winslow's 13 points.
Winslow's Kristin Wagner knocked down 12 points and Sierra Singer added 10 points.
"It was a great, hard fought game by both teams," said Winslow head coach Jerron Jordan. "My team did a great job playing team defense and getting big defensive stops in the second half."
