Events to consider Sept. 20-24 in EV, southern Arizona
September 19, 2011 by Les Willsey, AZPreps365
Tuesday Sept. 20 -- Volleyball has some tasty matchups with Mountain Pointe at Hamilton and Desert Vista at Corona del Sol in Division I. It's a quick turnaround for Mountain Pointe and Hamilton, who met last Thursday with Hamilton prevailing in a tight, four-set match.
Wednesday Sept. 21 -- Cienega at Sabino volleyball. Both teams are at or just below 10 wins apiece.
Thursday Sept. 22 -- A good chance to take in two very good Division I football teams on a night when your team is idle. That's Mountain Pointe at Chandler. More volleyball as well with Hamilton visiting Corona del Sol.
Friday Sept. 23 -- Several football games of interest. Unbeaten Desert Vista (4-0) invades Corona del Sol (3-1), Red Mountain (2-2) visits Gilbert (3-1), Marcos de Niza (3-1) travels to Ironwood Ridge (4-0), Canyon del Oro (2-2) at Flowing Wells (4-0), Florence (3-1) at Coolidge (4-0) and Gila Ridge (4-0) at Perry (2-2).
Saturday Sept. 24 -- Cross country invites. The 23rd annual Ojo Rojo, hosted by Chandler High. Meet takes place at Tumbleweed Park in the morning. A traditional scoring meet with varsity girls racing at 9, varsity boys following at 9:30. Mesa Mountain View won both teams titles last year. In southern Arizona the Los Mezquites Invitational brings a host of southern Arizona schools together at Kennedy Park. Rincon boys and Nogales girls won titles there last year.
