One of the top early season football matchups will take place on Thursday night (Sept. 1).

Phoenix Thunderbird, which won the Class 4A Division II championship, travels to face Scottsdale Saguaro, the 4A Division I winner. Kickoff is at 7.

Thunderbird defeated Goodyear Desert Edge 28-10 in its season opener last week. Running back Connor Hustead is one of Thunderbird’s leaders.

The result of Saguaro’s opener was much more definitive. The Sabercats rolled past Phoenix Paradise Valley 63-20. The Sabercats are led by senior D.J. Foster, a running back-receiver-defensive back who is one of the state’s top all-around athletes.
