SOCCER: Amphi Panther Invite update

The Amphitheater Panther Soccer Invitational is taking place this week at various sites around Southern Arizona with the championship matches scheduled for Saturday night at Amphitheater High School. The girl’s championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the boy’s final will follow at 7 p.m.
On the girl’s side, Canyon del Oro improved to 2-0 thanks to a 4-1 win over Rio Rico on Tuesday afternoon. Senior forward Alysa Canez scored two goals in the win with her first coming in the 7th minute from about 25 yards away. Sophomore midfielder Rachel Clark put the Dorados up 2-0 in the 49th minute and junior midfielder Andrea McClutchy-Gale scored two minutes later to make it 3-0. Canez scored second goal in the 57th and Jr. MF Melanie Kridler put Rio Rico on the board with a goal in the 68th.
“I think we’re going to have a good season this year,” Canez said. “Our skill level is higher, and we are really friendly and work hard.”
Tanque Verde, Nogales and Cholla are also 2-0 in the girl’s column while Nogales, Sunnyside and Cholla are undefeated on the boy’s side.
