The Fountain Hills Falcons, led by their senior quarterback Garrett Renner, found a way to end the Valley Christian Trojans' three game winning streak with Friday night's 49-14 win.

 

The Trojans opened the game with an early strike and string of first downs that led to a touchdown in the first quarter by their running back, Jake Orth.

 

After trading possessions multiple times in the first quarter the Falcons were able to contest the Trojans' initial score with a touchdown of their own to tie up the ball game before the first quarter ended.

 

“Tonight I was feeling good and I was able to connect with my receivers early on in the game,” said Renner, who started the game with 10 completed passes.

 

Beginning the second quarter of action, the Falcons seemed to be hitting on all angles as they commanded a lead with their dual action run-pass game that could not be stopped by the Trojans.

 

Valley Christian could not gain any momentum against Fountain Hills in this quarter as they continued to make mental mistakes and receive penalties in abundance, while the opposing team continued to score putting up 28 points on the scoreboard by the end of the second quarter.

 

Momentum established in the first half of the game continued into the second half as the Falcons started the third quarter with a 40-yard kick return that quickly followed with a two-play drive resulting in an early touchdown for the Falcons leaving the Trojans trailing 35 to 7.

 

After a few changes in possession of the football, Valley Christian attempted to finally gain some momentum late in the third quarter after a goal-line fumble recovery from their defensive lineman Cole Beck, but were unable to capitalize on the Falcons' mistake.

 

The defense for Fountain Hills was in full attack mode as they tallied several sacks in the third quarter against Trojans quarterback Peyton Hanzal.

 

The offense for Fountain Hills continued to press on and tacked on another touchdown with 16 seconds left in the third after Collin Robbins had two explosive runs to set up the score for the Falcons.

 

Following yet another touchdown by the Falcons in the fourth quarter the Trojans were able to make a statement by scoring their second touchdown of the game, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

 

“They got after us and we didn’t respond… We didn’t play as hard as I would have liked to see us play,” said coach Jeff Ruttledge about the Trojans.

 

On the other side of the sidelines, Coach Jason Henslin said, "Hey, we are just excited to keep rolling and get another victory, and hopefully we can continue to win and make the playoffs.”

 

The Trojans will continue their season by preparing for their next game against Tempe Prep, as the Falcons look ahead to Northwest Christian.
