Seton's Big Apple moment awaits

Seton Catholic’s girls basketball team is in New York, not for Spring Break, but to see if it can continue celebrating, this time on a national stage.
The Chandler program’s season in Arizona ended on Feb. 29 with the program’s 8th championship title in tow. The championship victory earned Seton Catholic the unique opportunity to continue its season in the 8th annual Dick’s Sporting Goods National invitational.
The tournament pits some of the nation’s elite high school teams in the final high school basketball tournament of the season. Only four teams will participate in the Dick’s Nationals, but it’s quite a quartet.
And they’ll play on a grand stage, the Madison Square Garden. Seton Catholic (31-1) is seeded No. 2 and will play a Florida state champion, 28-1 Ribault, Friday in the second televised semifinal game.
No. 1 Maryland Riverdale Baptist takes on No. 4 Georgia St. Francis in the first semifinal game on ESPNU. The winners advance to Saturday’s 7 a.m. final, which ESPN2 will televise.
It’s an early wake up call, but as the first-ever Arizona entrant in the tournament, Seton Catholic likely won’t mind competing for another title.
