Final 4A/5A conference appeal update
October 22, 2015 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365
3:30 p.m.
Gila Ridge's appeal to move from 5A to 4A was the only appeal approved during the afternoon voting session of Thursday's 5A/4A Conference hearings.
The reasoning behind Gila Ridge's approval was so that the school wasn't the only Yuma school in 5A and to pair it up with Yuma in the 4A. For the next two years, 41 schools will compete in 6A, 43 in 5A and 45 in 4A.
The leadership of the 6A, 5A and 4A Conferences will meet on Oct. 29 to go over region placement drafts.
1 p.m.
All of the 6A to 5A Conference appeals schools made were denied. Below are the voting results.
The Phoenix Union District and Yuma schools were grouped together. Appeals that didn't pass at the conference level can be appealed to the AIA executive board.
10:40 a.m.
Former NFL quarterback and current Desert Mountain offensive coordinator Kurt Warner attended Thursday's conference appeal by Desert Mountain to move down to 5A for the 2016-18 seasons.
The 5A and 4A Conference committees haven't yet voted on teams appealing down. So far, the committees did approve the appeals of schools wanting to move up.
Below is a school and committee vote list we will update throughout Thursday.

The 5A and 4A Conference committees will hear the appeals from schools that want to compete in their divisions in 2016-18 Thursday between 9 a.m.-2:50 p.m. at the Arizona Interscholastic Assocaition.
Below is the list of the 37 schools that are scheduled to make appeal presentations. The outcome of the committees’ votes will be posted on this page and aiaonline.org.
I’ll broadcast some of the schools’ appeal presentations live on Periscope and likely all of the votes the committees make. Follow me on Twitter to know when I’m using Periscope.
The 2A and 3A Conference committees will hear their appeals on Oct. 27. A date for the 1A Conference appeal hearings hadn’t been set as of Wednesday night.
