Washington’s Mario Armendarez came close to throwing the most yards ever in a game by a high school quarterback.

His 756-yard performance in Friday’s 94-76 loss to Agua Fria was nine yards shy of setting a new national record. Armendarez might be ranked No. 2 all-time for the single best passing performance nationally, but he his No. 1 all-time in Arizona.

The previous all-class high for passing yards in Arizona was 641 yards, set last year by Higley’s Mason Crossland. Also, Armendarez’s 10 touchdown passes on Friday tied him with six other quarterbacks for the second most ever thrown nationally in a game.

On Friday, Armendarez also became the first Arizona high school quarterback to ever throw 10 touchdown passes in an 11-man football game. Bailey Anderson of Gilbert Christian threw 10 touchdown passes in an 8-man game in 2013.

Oh, and Armendarez’s 76 passing attempts on Friday now ranks fourth nationally in that single-game category.
