MaxPreps/NFCA Players of the Week for May 4-10, 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky.Keren Martinez of Gorton (Yonkers, N.Y.), Morgan Lippens of Morgan Township (Valparaiso, Ind.), Lorrin Malerie Turner of Wise (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Olivia Brees of Jefferson West (Meriden, Kan.) and Hailey Dolcini of Fortuna (Fortuna, Calif.) were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week, respectively, announced on Monday for games played May 4-10, 2015.

East

Martinez keyed a Gorton offense that scored 79 runs in three games by hitting .750 (9-for-12) with four doubles, two triples, 11 runs scored and 10 RBI. The senior catcher slugged 1.417, posted an .800 on base percentage and was 4-for-4 in stolen bases. In the first of two slugfests, she went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, six RBI and four runs in a 28-22 victory over Roosevelt. Martinez followed with a 5-for-6, double, triple and five runs scored performance in a 28-18 triumph versus East Ramapo and closed out by doubling, scoring twice and driving in three runs in her second game against Roosevelt.

North
Lippens was near perfect at the plate by going 9-for-10 with a six extra base hits, a .909 on base percentage, 10 runs scored and nine RBI. In addition, she slugged 2.200 with a pair of doubles, three long balls and a triple. Over three games, Lippens recorded three, three-hit games, scored at least three runs in each contest and drove in four twice. A perfect 3-for-3 outing with four RBI and four runs scored powered her team to a 14-0 win over LaCrosse. The next day she left the yard twice, drove in four and scored three times against Hammond Clark. Lippens ended her week 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

South
Turner slugged her way to this week's award with four home runs, three doubles and an astronomical 2.273 slugging percentage. A senior utility player, Turner added 12 RBI, eight runs and registered a .909 on base percentage. She went 4-for-4 with three home runs, six RBI and four runs scored in an 11-10 nailbiter against Flowers. Turner doubled twice, knocked in four and scored twice versus Bowie and went 3-for-4 with a double, long ball, two RBI and two runs scored against Gwynn Park.

South Central
Brees, a 6-3 senior, used her arm to pick up a pair of complete-game shutouts in a doubleheader sweep of Perry-Lecompton. She went 2-0, struck out 18 without a walk, scattered five hits and held her opposition ot a .107 batting average. Brees allowed three hits and struck out eight in a 6-0 win in the opener and gave up just two hits and fanned 10 in the nightcap (3-0).

West
Behind a no-hitter and a .778 batting average, Dolcini helped Fortuna to a three-game sweep of Arcata last weekend. She won all three games by not allowing a run and surrendering one hit with 33 strikeouts in 14 innings. The 6-0 sophomore held Arcata to a microscopic .023 batting average and allowed just two base runners. Dolcini struck out 14 and was a hit-by-pitch away from a perfect game in the series opener. In game two, she fanned 15 in a one-hit shutout and closed out by picking up a win by striking out four of six batters. The finale also saw Dolcini go 4-for-5 with a double, triple, four RBI and two runs scored.
