MaxPreps/USA Baseball name High School Players of the Week for April 27, 2015

Pitcher/first baseman Andrew Edwards of Desert Christian (Tucson, Ariz.) was named as the MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week from the Southwest Region.


DURHAM, N.C.
-- USA Baseball and MaxPreps announced on Monday, the MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week Award winners for the week of April 27, 2015, bringing national recognition to the top-performing high school athletes in the country.

Representing eight national regions, -- Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest and West -- players are selected based upon stats that are submitted to MaxPreps by coaches and team administrators. For players to be nominated each week, their coach must enter the athlete's game stats into MaxPreps by Sunday evening. High school coaches may obtain an access code to enter stats for their teams at maxpreps.com/cl.

The winners for MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week Award are as follows:

Great Lakes
Garret Robberts, a junior at Utica (Utica, Ohio) High School, earned Great Lakes MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week honors after posting an .857/.889/2.142 slash line for the week of April 27. Robberts went 6-for-7 with three home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored.

Mid-Atlantic
Hunter Bordner, a senior at Tri-Valley (Hegins, Pa.) High School, earned two victories and fired eight shutout innings to earn Mid-Atlantic MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week. Bordner allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 13 batters in the pair of victories for the Bulldogs.

Midwest
Conner VanCleave, a sophomore at Holcomb (Holcomb, Kan.) High School, was dominant in two victories this week, allowing just one hit over 14 innings, while striking out 25 and issuing just three walks to earn Midwest MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week. The highlight came on Monday, April 27, when VanCleave fired a complete-game, no-hitter against Syracuse (Kan.) High School, striking out 12 and walking a pair.

Northeast
Alex Burnett, a junior a Brushton-Moira (Brushton, N.Y.) High School, went 11-for-13 (.846) with 13 RBIs and nine runs scored to earn Northeast MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week recognition. Burnett's impressive offensive numbers include three doubles, two triples and a home run. He slugged 1.615 for the week.

Northwest
Trenton Hughes, a senior at Rye (Rye, Colo.) High School, earned Northwest MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week honors after going 12-for-15 (.800) with 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored this week. Hughes also fired a five-inning, complete game one-hitter, striking out 13 and not allowing a walk to earn the win on May 2.

Southeast
Gideon McKee, a junior at Overton (Nashville, Tenn.) High School, notched two wins over nine shutout innings to earn Southeast MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week. McKee struckout 17 and walked four over two hitless appearances.

Southwest
Andrew Edwards, a senior at Desert Christian (Tucson, Ariz.) High School, was a perfect 7-for-7 at the plate this week to win Southwest MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week. Edwards performance included 10 RBIs, five runs scored, three doubles, a triple and a home run. He slugged 2.142 and walked twice.

West
Trent Stewart, a junior at Calvary Chapel (Moreno Valley, Calif.) High School, earned West MaxPreps/USA Baseball Player of the Week after going 8-for-8 (1.000) at the plate with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored. Stewart walked once to post a 1.000/1.000/1.000 slash line.
