Runs aren’t coming in bunches for the Fountain Hills baseball team. They are coming in truckloads.
On Tuesday (April 15), the Falcons provided yet another example of why they have a strong chance to repeat as Division III state champions.
They routed visiting Tempe Prep 20-0 (five innings, 10-run rule) to run their record to 17-3, and have scored 10 or more runs in half of those games, including 33 in their previous game. Fountain Hills entered the day as the No. 6 team in power points, while Tempe Prep (16-5-1) was third in Division IV power points.
Fountain Hills collected 16 hits, including two by senior star Andrew Bryniarski.
Bryniarski, who was azcentral’s Small Schools Player of the Year as a junior in 2013, had a two-run home run and a triple and now has driven in 38 runs. The hits were the 24th and 25th extra-base hits of the season (he has 35 hits total). It was his ninth homer of the season.
Two Fountain Hills pitchers combined to limit Tempe Prep to one hit.
Fountain Hills scored three in the first inning, seven in the third and 10 in the fourth, when it sent 15 men to the plate.
The Falcons hit the road on Wednesday (April 16) for a game against Chandler Valley Christian.
