AIA executive board approves initial section placements

The Arizona Interscholatic Association's executive board approved initial section placements for 2011-2013 Monday and released them to the divisions and member schools on Tuesday.
Schools wishing to appeal their initial section placement can do by sport by filling out an-online form and returning it to the AIA by 3 p.m. on Jan. 6.
The section makeups are based on a program of GPS markings that in some cases put schools many miles away (Tucson schools or Yuma schools in Division I and II for example with schools in the metro Phoenix area).
AIA executive director Dr. Harold Slemmer said it was too early to get a read on feedback. He does anticipate questions regarding the logistics. Even questions on schools far from Phoenix such as Tucson, being placed in sections with East Valley schools.
"Schools in the outlying areas have to go somewhere," Slemmer said.
Section placement appeals submitted by Jan. 6 will be heard and approved or denied by the AIA executive board at its Jan. 18 meeting. Final section placements will be announced the following day.
