Corona del Sol dismisses Tom Joseph as football coach

September 26, 2013 by Les Willsey, AZPreps365

Corona del Sol announced Thursday it has fired Tom Joseph as its head football coach, effective immediately.
The announcement came in a letter issued by principal Brent Brown to parents of the players.  Corona del Sol administrators did not return phone messages concerning the firing. A phone message for Joseph has not been returned.
Corona posted a 9-11 record in Joseph’s first two seasons and was 0-4 heading to Friday’s game with Mesquite. Prior to coaching at Corona, Joseph produced successful teams at Superior, Marcos de Niza and Mesa Mountain View. Joseph won a state title at Mountain View in 2002 and the Toros were runnesr-up in2003 and  2006.

Here is the text of the letter issued to parents of Corona football players Thursday:

Dear Parents of Corona del Sol High School Football Players:

Tempe Union High School District and Corona del Sol High School have announced that Tom Joseph, Corona del Sol’s Varsity Head Football Coach, will not be continuing in that position effective immediately.  Arrangements have been made for the Corona Assistant Varsity Football Coaches to assume leadership of the team until an Interim Varsity Head Football Coach can be named.  I anticipate an announcement for an Interim Varsity Head Football Coach by early next week.

The decision regarding this announcement to relieve Tom Joseph from his coaching responsibilities has been made, first and foremost, in the best interests of the students and we look forward to beginning the search for the next Varsity Head Football Coach at the close of the 2013 football season.

Our team will be in good care for Friday night’s game.  I appreciate your continued support as we work together during this time of transition.

Sincerely,

Brent Brown, Principal

Corona del Sol High School
