Playing catch-up: Prince finds his queen

They’ve left their Arizona high school nests, but aia365.com wants to continue following the careers of former in-state athletes who are now soaring elsewhere.

Work promotions. A new baby. Even wedding proposals made in Las Vegas and then posted on YouTube.

We’ll post what we can so we can stay in touch with former athletes with Arizona high school ties.

Princely proposal

On Wednesday, New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara (Apollo High 2007) posted a video of his surprise wedding proposal to his girlfriend.

It happened in July in Las Vegas with the help of popular hip-hop dance crew the Jabbawockeez.

---USC fifth-year linebacker Devon Kennard (Desert Vista 2008) was named one of four team captains for the upcoming season.  

Kennard was named a captain despite missing the entire 2012 campaign with an injury.

--This month, 2012 Marcos de Niza senior Priest Willis heard the news he’d been waiting for almost three months: He can play for UCLA this season.

The highly touted defensive back was practicing with UCLA but was waiting to receive academic clearance from the NCAA to play in games. UCLA’s secondary is inexperienced, and Willis was competing for a starting spot.

---Rob Valentino (Pinnacle 2004) and his wife welcomed their new bundle of joy, Keira Avery, into the world this week.

Keira was born on Tuesday. Valentino plays for Orlando City and was named the United Soccer League Pro Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.
