Preview: Basha at Hamilton
October 17, 2012 by Game Previews, AZPreps365
Two Division I teams are hoping to finish 2012 strong and secure solid playoff positions as Basha visits Hamilton for a Friday night football contest in Chandler. Both teams are 6-2 with Hamilton currently seeded third in the MaxPreps poll, while the Bears hold down the #10 spot. The Huskies piled up almost 600 yards of offense in a 44-14 rout of Basha in 2011.
Hamilton has won six straight games and has scored an average of 40.5 points per game over that stretch. Two weeks ago, Hamilton notched a 23-13 victory over Desert Vista, the team that defeated the Huskies in the 2011 Division I state championship game. In addition, the Huskies have wins over the two opponents that have beaten Basha this year in Chandler and Desert Ridge.
The Bears broke a tie after three quarters last week and scored 20 in the final stanza to notch a 34-14 victory over Perry, which is playoff-bound in Division II. Basha boasts a strong running attack led by Rajhan Meriwether, who is averaging 109 yards per contest. But junior quarterback Zach Werlinger can also engineer a potent air attack with his 247.1 yards-per-game average. Basha has scored at least three touchdowns in every game this season.
Kickoff is at 7pm Friday at Hamilton High School in Chandler.
