Liberty vs Greenway

October 5, 2012 by Game Previews, AZPreps365

Liberty and Greenway started the game with sky divers entering the field, delivering a game ball, but it was Liberty who ended up on top 38-33.

Greenway made one final offensive push with 3:04 left on the game clock, with the series beginning on their own 34-yard line. But the Lions defense showed up with a big knock down by John Miscevich to put a cap on the win for Liberty.

Liberty scored first on a run by Kyle Harns and the Demons were unable to gain positive yardage on their first set of downs. Liberty quarterback Tyler Rogers added the next score for the Lions. Cody Wescott put the double-move on Kyle Anulao to get on the board and trail 14-7.

Demons quarterback Kenneth Heinzerling found Josh Marquez in the end zone, but a missed extra point kept them behind 14-13. Marquez scored again before the end of the half, giving Greenway the 19-14 lead, but Harns of Liberty broke free on a 46-yard touchdown run and regained the 21-19 led at the half.

Rogers scored on a keeper to go ahead 28-19 in the third quarter and Greenway answered back with a little more than one minute left in the third quarter to trail 28-26.

To start the fourth quarter, Harns added another touchdown and the Lions led 35-26. Gabe Garcia had a big second half for the Lions as he applied pressure, forcing incomplete passes from Heinzerling. Tyler Wyatt hit a 23-yard field goal to extend the Lions lead 38-26.

Greenway's Mark Dogbah pounded his way 15 yards in for a score and the Demons trailed by 5. Ninos Yokhana sacked Rogers on Liberty's first play and also forced the Lions to punt, after stopping Harns. With 3:04 on the game clock, Greenway began to make their way down the field. Dogbah and Josh Weaver took turns running through the Lions defense, but it mattered the most, the Lions defense came through - maintaining the Lions 38-33 lead and the eventual win.
