October 4, 2012 by Game Previews, AZPreps365
The Brophy Broncos look to keep rolling this week as they face the Westview Knights Friday night in Avondale. The Broncos (5-2) moved up to sixth in the latest aia365.com seedings following a huge 54-28 home win over Phoenix Mountain Pointe last week. Brophy has now won three in-a-row since starting the year 2-2. The Broncos' only losses this season were to Santa Margarita (CA), which is ranked third in the nation by Maxpreps, and Mesa Red Mountain.
Westview (5-1) enters the contest riding a five-game winning streak but the Knights are seeded just 19th in Division I due to strength of schedule. Westview lost at Red Mountain to open the year, but has since rattled off wins over Tolleson, Maryvale, Alhambra, Trevor Browne and most recently St. Mary's. Those teams, however, have a combined 9-and-23 record.
The Broncos have a balanced offense and are guided by quarterback Tyler Bruggman. The senior has thrown for 1,247 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions this year. He also has three rushing scores. Marche Dennard leads the Brophy rushing attack with 966 yards and eight TDs on 121 touches.
The Knights, meanwhile, will turn to their dominating ground game once again. Westview is averaging over 350 rush yards per game, racking up over 2,100 yards and 33 touchdowns as a unit. Senior Seivion Morris leads the team with 606 yards and 11 TDs on 45 carries.
Brophy beat Westview 24-21 last year at Phoenix College in the first ever meeting between the school's. Kickoff Friday is set for 7:00 pm.
