(Phoenix, June 23, 2025)- In partnership with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA), Better Business Bureau Pacific Southwest, Central & Inland California named two high school student-athletes as Ethical Champions from its winners in the BBB Ethical Athlete scholarship program. Through community and self-nominations, high school students are evaluated by a panel of judges for their ability to uphold integrity in the face of ethical and personal challenges, both on and off the court, while participating in sports.

The program recognizes and honors behaviors that positively impact others. Each Ethical Athlete wins a $1,000 scholarship, and Ethical Champions are awarded an additional $2,500 scholarship at AIA’s Champions Gala.

2024-2025 BBB Ethical Champions

  • Kendal Bonjour from Williams Field High School in Gilbert
  • Tyler Woo from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix

Through a self-nomination, Kendal Bonjour explains how she volunteers her time to coach youth on the importance of ethics when competing in races. Although she struggled with body image as an athlete, she was able to navigate the challenge through positive influences and self-discovery.

“I am beyond grateful to use this opportunity to further my education majoring in entrepreneurship and innovation. I’m blessed to represent the female high school student-athletes with this award,” Bonjour shared.

Nominated by his mom, Tyler Woo was once told by a coach that he wouldn’t make the tennis team before tryouts even started. But with determination, he increased his training which then led him to a spot on the varsity team every year. And when he was offered an unfair advantage for a school test, he chose honesty over the shortcut.

“Throughout my tennis career, I’ve always tried to play with integrity and respect. I’m extremely honored to receive this award and I am going to continue to work for what this award stands for,” shared Woo.

These two students are just a few of the inspiring young leaders chosen as this year’s BBB Ethical Athletes—recognized for their outstanding character, sportsmanship, and dedication to doing the right thing when it matters most.
