ALA Queen Creek is a school that excels in boys volleyball.

For the third time in five years of the 2020 decade, the Patriots brought home another trophy and later on will have a banner to hang up at school.

The third-seeded team in this year's tournament, ALA Queen Creek bested No. 8 Tucson Salpointe in straight sets on Saturday at Skyline High School. Scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17. ALA-QC finishes the season with a glossy 35-7 record. Salpointe ended 29-9.

"We lost only two or three sets altogether this year," ALA Queen Creek coach Chris Aviles said. "Nothing changed as went along. We stayed with our culture and played united."

ALA-QC had plenty of firepower, and setter Connor Jarnagan put it to good use.

Senior Calvin McComber (14 kills) led with 14 kills. A trio of juniors were in the mix led by Britton Dewitt (12 kills), Jonny Reheis (8 kills) and Luke Brundage (7 kills).

Jarnagan piled up 39 assists in the sweep.

The first two sets were tight to the finish. ALA-Queen Creek used consecutive aces in breaking the first set's final tie at 19-all.

The last two kills clinching the set came courtesy of Brundage and Jarnagan.

Salpointe had the better of play the first third of the second set, leading 8-6. A 9-3 run by ALA-QC forged a 15-11 lead that prompted Salpointe to call time and regroup.

Salpointe fell behind by four or five points a couple of times, but put pressure on, led by the versatile Lehi Rocha. ALA Queen Creek claimed the second set after an errant kill.

The third set was close for the first 16 points (8-8 tie). But ALA Queen Creek put the hammer down, allowing Salpointe to not get closer than four points (16-12).

Salpointe's attack was two pronged. Rocha piled up 13 kills and Dawson Leber finished with nine.
