No. 3 Canyon del Oro knocked off No. 14 Ironwood Ridge 5-0 on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Division II state playoffs. As of Wednesday morning, the results of the Prescott and Flagstaff match have not been posted. The Dorados will host the winner of that match in the quarterfinal round on May 6.

The Dorados improved to 14-1 on the year with the lone setback coming at No. 1 Salpointe on April 15. That 5-4 decision was the closest for the Lancers who are now 14-1, with the loss coming to a team from Bowling Green, Ohio.

In the match with Ironwood Ridge (11-5), Aubrey Banek beat Grace Ponzo (6-0, 6-0) to put the Dorados up 1-0 from the fifth court and then Haylee Wendel beat Madeline Flowers (6-0, 6-2) to put Canyon del Oro up 2-0 from court six. Camryn Hansen beat Grace Chen (6-2, 6-1) to put the Dorados up 3-0 from court four and then Avery Eliscu beat Haruka Lee (6-0, 6-2) to give Canyon del Oro a commanding 4-0 lead from court three.

Dorado junior Emma Bartruff was battling Ironwood Ridge senior Sarah Goldman on the first court but Jordan Crawford beat Illisa Cohen (7-6, 6-3) on the second court to end the match with Canyon del Oro taking a 5-0 lead.  Under the playoff rules, the first team to five points wins and the match is over.

The season is over for the Nighthawks as far as team competition goes but Goldman is the No. 7 seed in the state singles playoffs, slated to start on May 2 and Cohen and Lee are seeded No. 7 in doubles competition. The Canyon del Oro doubles team of Crawford and Scarlette Bakken are the top seeds and Eliscu and Hansen are also competing as a team. Banek and Bartruff are slotted in singles competition.
