The eight sectional tournaments for girls wrestling were held on Saturday across the state for the two divisions. Four wrestlers from each section and weight class will advance to the state tournament slated for Feb. 21-22 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Liberty beat Sunnyside 145.5 to 127 to win the Division I title last year and Round Valley beat Sahuarita 77 to 63 to win the D-II team championship. Liberty and Sunnyside appear to headed for another battle this year but we might have a wide open competition in D-II with Snowflake being the early favorite.

15 returning champions qualified for state once again. Sienna Whitington of AZ College Prep moved to D-I from D-II last year and former Cibola state champion Camille Torres moved to California. Torres won the D-I 120 division as a freshman. There are no multiple state champions.
