On Tuesday night, October 28th, the Trojans took an unfortunate loss against the Crismon Rattlers after playing an extremely competitive game against a team that would eventually finish the season ranked 8th in the 4A Division. After coming off a strong win against their opponent the previous week, Valley Christian showed up with the same amount of intensity. The Trojans battled throughout the game, but ultimately came up just short, with the final score being 10-14.
In the first quarter the Trojan defense stopped the Rattlers from moving the ball down the field. The stingy defense gave the Trojan offense a chance to go down and take the lead, which they did with quarterback sophomore Catherine Slyter driving in a running touchdown. With the extra point, the score was 7-0 heading into the second quarter.
Beginning the second quarter, the Trojan defense had the momentum to keep standing strong. Slyter made a spectacular interception to get the Trojans the ball back. The offense moved the ball just enough for a field goal attempt. Sophomore kicker Ryan Nelson successfully made the field goal making the score 10-0 for the Trojans.
The Rattlers offense came out fast after getting the ball back after Trojan last scoring drive. Crismon was able to march down the field, eventually leading to touchdown, despite major flag pulls by Ameila Bowman (10) and Rylan Ernst (11). The score was 10-7 for the Trojans going into halftime.
Rylan Ernst said "It was good to go into halftime with the lead."
Valley Christian started off with the ball going into the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Trojan offense wasn't able to move the ball and quarterback Slyter threw an pick-6, making the score 10-14 for the Rattlers. It was time for the defense to make a big stop in the last few minutes to give the offense another chance to score. The Trojans came up with a big defensive turnover by Slyter, who came up with another interception. Sadly, the offense could not produce enough yards to get a final score on the board. In the end, the Trojans lost 10-14 to a strong Crismon Rattlers squad.
