Poston Butte Broncos ended its season victorious after picking up a road win at Marcos de Niza.

The Broncos finished off the season on a high note winning its final three games, meanwhile Marcos de Niza picked up its fifth consecutive loss.

Poston Butte wasted no time getting started as senior running back Jaylen Brooks received a desperate lateral pass for a 75-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game.

Immediately after Brooks found the house, Poston Butte’s kickoff team recovered the ball on the Padres 1-yard line.

This put the Broncos in prime scoring position which allowed senior running back Evan Moore to rush for a 1-yard touchdown, putting the Broncos up by two scores just two minutes into the game.

It was at this point that Marcos de Niza realized its opponent came to play.

The middle portion of the quarter was all defense, aside from Padre’s kicker hitting a successful 20-yard field goal

In the final minute of the first quarter, Padres junior quarterback Jaedon Lott connected with junior receiver Gavin Dixon for a 55-yard touchdown, putting Marcos de Niza back within one score.

The second quarter was all Poston Butte.

Broncos senior quarterback Mason Lloyd started the quarter with his legs, ending the drive with a 15-yard rushing touchdown.

Lloyd went on to finish the game with an impressive 105 rushing yards.

Moments before the two-minute warning Moore earned his second touchdown in the game, rushing it 5 yards to the house.

When asked about his impressive performance all season long, Moore said that he came into the season with a little extra motivation given that it’s his senior year.

“I just love this sport and I knew that this was going to be my last season, so I was just trying to ball out,” said Moore.

Just moments after Moore’s second touchdown it was senior strong safety Ryley Campbell’s turn to give the Broncos even more momentum.

Campbell got an interception late in the half and ran it 50 yards all the way to the Padres 1-yard line.

It was Brooks who rushed it into the end zone from the goal line, earning his second touchdown of the game.

Putting Poston Butte up 38-10 to end the half.

The second half started in a defensive battle, with the first points coming six minutes into play.

It was Lloyd, Moore and Brooks that eventually rushed the Broncos offense down the length of the field, the drive ended with a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Brooks, tallying his third of the game.

The Padres showed no quit as they answered back with a touchdown of its own.

This time it was senior receiver Jace Verdugo on the receiving end of Lott’s 70-yard touchdown pass to end the quarter.

The fourth quarter was slow with neither team picking up any points.

The Broncos (5-5) ended the game with a 45-18 victory, defeating the Padres (2-8) for the third consecutive year.

Broncos quarterback Lloyd mentioned that himself and his teammates had a dinner Thursday night together and that he wouldn’t want to play with any other team no matter their record.

“We had a team dinner last night and I told these guys if I had a choice to be starting on an undefeated team or the Broncos, I would choose the Broncos 10 times out of 10, I love these guys.” Said Lloyd.

Poston Butte head coach Dain Thompson also shared his thoughts his team this season.

“I love this team, I love the way they love each other and play hard for each other,” said Thompson. “The effort, the energy, the enthusiasm to play football was one hundred percent the whole season.”
