High School Swim Classic

September 28: University of Arizona

 

Catalina Foothills swept the High School Swim Classic held on the University of Arizona campus on Saturday. Salpointe took second on both sides while Gild Ridge took third on the boy’s side and Canyon del Oro took third on the girl’s side.

Ryan Stamer, who won the 100 Free individual state championship for Pusch Ridge as a sophomore and a junior, won the 100 Free and the 200 Free on Saturday for Catalina Foothills, along with 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay. His teammate Kyle Dowe won the 200 IM and the 100 Breast along with the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay. Dowe was the 2023 state champion in the 200 IM and the 200 Breast as a sophomore.

Catalina Foothills senior Amber Janky won the 200 Free and the 100 Breast along with the 200 free Relay and the 400 Free Relay. Gila Ridge standout Brayden Cox won the 50 Free and the 100 Fly along with the 200 Free Relay.

Catalina Foothills sophomore Leila Stafford won the 100 Free and the 500 Free along with the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay.

The state championships are slated for Nov. 8-9 with Division I and II taking place at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa and Division II at the Phoenix Country Day School. The top 40 individuals, plus two individual alternates, and top 30 nominated relay teams, plus one relay team alternate, per event will qualify for the state meet based on a provisional mark met at an approved state qualifying invitational.
