Mountain View showed their capability in a sweep of Tolleson Union (25-6, 25-7, 25-17) at home on Wednesday night.

The Toros came into this game wanting to bounce back from their Monday home loss to Liberty. Mountain View dominated against Tolleson and never let off the gas.

Mountain View collectively put up 35 kills and 13 aces, led by junior Ava Kounkel and senior Aubrey Parris, both outside hitters with the game-high eight kills each.

Senior setter Jordyn Decker began the set with 19 straight serves, including six aces for the Toros' commanding lead.

“I knew that I really wanted to start the match out strong,” Decker said. “I think that I was trying to move the ball around a lot so I would go short and deep to try and mix things up, and that’s it.”

Tolleson did not have an answer to Decker’s serves or anything that Mountain View threw at them as they struggled to receive in the first set. The Wolverines never found a groove and was constantly kept off balance by the Toros.

Tolleson appeared to be more in control at the beginning of the second set with a few volleys early on, but the Toros had all the energy and momentum as they kept pounding on the Wolverines at every turn.

“We like to keep a lot of energy as part of our culture,” Mountain View head coach Lee Golden said. “It’s something we want to consistently do regardless of opponent or regardless of how much we are ahead or beneath.”

The Toros did have a small setback as senior middle Aubrey Bellus suffered an ankle injury during the second set's second play.

The third set started out much like the other two, but Tolleson appeared to have better coordination helping them bring the score back within two and then to tie the set at 10. This led to the desperate Wolverines battling with the Toros before Mountain View pulled away after Tolleson made another comeback to bring the set within three, 17-14.

“The difference was our energy got better, our blockers started to pick up on their hitters, and our defense started to move their feet,” Tolleson Union head coach Hanna Miliken said. “We just started actually competing in the third set.”

Mountain View (3-3) will travel next Tuesday to play Westwood (3-3) at 6 p.m.

Tolleson Union (0-6) will play at home against Shadow Ridge (2-5) next Tuesday, also at 6 p.m.
