Canyon del Oro beat Amphitheater 5-0 on Monday with the regular season winding down. Canyon del Oro (8-4) came in ranked No. 14 in Division II and Amphitheater (0-9) was 38th but the rankings haven’t been updated since Friday afternoon. The next set of rankings will be released on Tuesday with the final set of matches scheduled for Wednesday.

At No. 14, the Dorados were already on the edge with only the top 16 teams advancing to the state playoffs so where the team lands on the rankings on Tuesday will be a good indicator but the team still has one final match against No. 24 Veritas Prep (4-7) on Wednesday. It will be tight.

At any rate, the Dorados are also hoping their top pair, junior Abbey Garner and senior Kylie Strang, qualify for the pairs state tournament with an at-large berth, handed out to the 16 pairs not attached to a top-eight team. Amphitheater’s season ended with the loss at CDO for the team and for their top pair of sophomore Emily Simpson and senior Ahyoka Hornbuckle.

There are still two undefeated teams in Division I, No. 1 O’Connor (10-0) and No. 2 Queen Creek (12-0), and two undefeated teams in D-II, No. 2 Mesquite (12-0) and No. 3 Salpointe (9-0). No. 1 Arcadia lost to D-II No. 7 NW Christian 3-2 on Monday.
