Joe Germaine is now the former head coach for his alma mater Mountain View, and the future football coach and athletic director for ALA's newest school set to open in northeast Mesa this Fall.
Germaine, who led Mountain View to a state championship in 1993 as a quarterback and safety, confirmed the move Tuesday afternoon after speaking with Mountain View administrators and informing  his players in person.
"This has been a really tough decision," Germaine said Tuesday afternoon.
"Mountain View is always going to be a special place for me. What it came down to is an opportunity that's best for my family in the big picture."
Germaine, who led Queen Creek to a 4A state title in 2012, will also have a role within the capacity of athletic administration at the new ALA campus, which began construction in late 2023 near Recker Rd and and the 202.

The school will likely begin its first season with junioir varsity and freshman teams.
"It's been a great three years," Germaine said. "I'm grateful to Principal Mike Oliver for this opportunity, as well as Joe Goodman (A.D.). They are as dedicated as any educators you'll ever find."

After decades of success, Mountain View's program began to decline in 2009. When Mike Oliver was hired as the new principal in the spring of 2021, he pursued Germaine immediately.
The former Ohio St. quarterback and 1997 Rose Bowl MVP led Mountain View to an 8-3 record and the 6A playoffs in 2021 and '23. The eight wins were the most since the 2009 season.
