Sunnyside held on to beat Liberty 179.5 to 174 at the Flowing Wells Invitational held Friday and Saturday. Marana took third place with a score of 100. 45 teams took part with the Blue Devils looking at a 20.5 lead heading into the championship round Saturday night.

Sunnyside had two wrestlers in the final round and Liberty had five and the Lions were able to send two of their wresters to the top of the podium in Lily Hunt (145) and Claire Avery (152) but it ultimately wasn’t enough to overcome the Blue Devils.

Liberty and Sunnyside are both Division I programs and the state tournament is set for February 16-17.

In addition, AIA Director of Athletics and Activities Dean Visser was named Honray Caballero for his leasdership in promotiong wreslting and girls wrestling.
