Voice of White Mountain sports Floyd Simmons set to be inducted into Arizona Broadcasters HOF on Jan. 26

SHOW LOW — The Arizona Media Association recently announced that longtime radio voice Floyd Simmons of the White Mountains area in northern Arizona is being inducted into the Arizona Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
For more than 30 years, Simmons has spent working in radio and local media production across the White Mountain area of Arizona, according to a news release.
“Floyd has held almost every job available in the local media world, but he is perhaps most well-known for his coverage of local sports,” a news release said.
Calling nearly 2,000 broadcasts of local games, Simmons is also the voice of the Arizona Rattlers and leads a production company that does the live video for both the Rattlers and Tucson Sugar Skulls of the Indoor Football League.
“Floyd has touched many more lives in his community than the average person might realize. In 2012, Floyd began working on the Northland Basketball project on the Navajo Nation,” a release said. “He has brought much deserved attention and recognition to Navajo youth, helping turn many of them into sports superstars through his work and media coverage.”
“Floyd epitomizes the role of local broadcasters as a community connector,” the release stated.
Simmons, among other broadcasters such as Bruce Cooper, Al Macias and Terri Ouellette, will be honored at the Arizona Media Future and Awards Lunch on Jan. 26 in Scottsdale.
Prior to the luncheon, Simmons is scheduled to broadcast the Mountain View-Westwood basketball game Jan. 25 in Mesa.
Kit Atwell, a longtime newspaper publisher for The Daily Courier in Prescott, is also being honored as she is inducted into the Arizona Newspapers Hall of Fame.

The Arizona Media Association is the newly formed combination of the Arizona Broadcasters Association and the Arizona Newspapers Association.
