Liberty standout QB Navi Bruzon wins the Ed Doherty Award

Liberty standout QB Navi Bruzon was named the 2023 Ed Doherty Award winner Saturday afternoon in Scottsdale. Bruzon led Liberty to the Open Division championship. Bruzon was one of five finalists along with Gage Baker of Paradise Honors, Adam Mohammed of Apollo, Brandon Phelps of ALA-Gilbert North and Demond Williams Jr. of Basha.

In all, there were 77 Ed Doherty medalists this year from 54 schools and they were all recognized on Saturday. Bruzon is the 42nd player recognized by the Grand Canyon State Gridiron Club dating back to 1987 with multiple players recognized in 2011 and 2012. Former Salpointe and current Atlanta Falcon standout Bijan Robinson won the award twice in 2018 and 2019.

In addition, Riczer Desvaristes was honored with the AIA Contribution to the Game Award for his work helping to bring Flag Football to Arizona and Jake Gustafson earned the AIA Official of the Year Award.
