Mountain View over Desert Sunrise 44-0

Mountain View Marana improved to 5-0 on the year after the Mountain Lions beat Desert Sunrise 44-0 at home on Thursday. Senior quarterback Lillian Gradillas went 10-19 for 123 yards and four touchdowns to set the pace.

Gradillas also came up with two interceptions on defense and she hit on four two-point conversions and it all started on a 12-yard pass to senior Holly McLemore with a conversion to Alyssa Valencia to put Mountain View up 8-0 with 6:40 left in the first quarter. Gradillas came up with her first interception in the closing moments of the quarter but Desert Sunrise got the ball back on downs. The Mountain Lions forced a punt and sophomore Destiny Payne ran the punt back 30 yards and Gradillas hit McLemore on another conversion to make it 16-0 with 6:03 left in the half.

Gradillas collected her second interception of the night on the next drive and she found McLemore from six yards out to make it 22-0 and Payne pulled in the conversion to make it 24-0 with 2:43 left. McLemore pulled in an interception three plays later to get the ball back and that led to a 17-yard strike from Gradillas to junior Laeyah Lujan to make it 30-0 and McLemore caught another conversion to make it 32-0 with 30.9 seconds left in the half.

Freshman Lindsey Sanchez got an interception three plays into the second half and Gradillas hit freshman Lilyanna Rios from 25 yards to make it 38-0 with 8:28 left in the third. Valencia took over at the QB position for Mountain View and she put together a 70-yard drive, capped by a short run, to make it 44-0 with 4:11 left in the game.

McLemore finished with 18 yards receiving with two TDs and Valencia finished with 69 yards rushing on 10 attempts with a touchdown. For Desert Sunrise, freshman Makarah Martinson Barker finished with 55 yards passing and Kiarah Taylor had 32 yards receiving.

The Golden Hawks fell to 1-5 on the year and the team will play at Eastmark (6-0) next Tuesday. Mountain View will visit Casa Grande 3-3 next Thursday.
