Another day, another solid pitching performance and another win for undefeated Mountain Ridge baseball on Tuesday afternoon.

Smith Bailey tossed six strong innings for his third win and his teammates took advantage of walks and hit batsmen to score most of its runs in a 4-2 road victory over Mesa Mountain View in a 6A game at Mountain View.

Mountain Ridge improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in power-ranking games. The Mountain Lions have surrendered just seven runs in those games and no more than two in any game until Tuesday.  Mountain View is 3-5 overall, 1-1 in power-ranking contests.

Bailey, a junior right-hander, allowed both runs, four hits, a walk and struck out five. Junior Jackson Forbes notched a save with a scoreless seventh. Forbes made his presence felt offensively as well. Forbes reached base three times (single, walk and hit by pitch) and scored twice.

"(Bailey) goes out and does his job," Mountain Ridge coach Eddie Bonine, a former major league pitcher, said. "It's attack, attack the zone, and let the defense work."

Mountain Ridge committed two errors, but neither were costly. An outfield boot cost an extra base to a hitter with two outs in the first, and an infield error leading off the fourth ended with that runner stranded at second as Bailey retired the next three batters in order. Both teams finished with five hits.

"We were too big offensively," Mountain View coach Jesus Arzaga said, meaning his hitters were trying to do too much. "We did a decent job minimizing with all the runners they had, but allowed way too many."

Toros starter Brock Snow gave up three hits in five innings, but walked five and hit a batter. Two of Snow's walks scored as did the batter Deutsch hit in the seventh.  

Mountain View and Mountain Ridge finished with five hits apiece. Mountain View third baseman Joe Terranova was the only Toro with two hits. Terranova homered in the first, doubled in the third and scored both runs. Cooper Holtorf was the lone player for Mountain Ridge with multiple hits. Holtorf was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Joe Forbes was 1 for 3 with an RBI double.

Mountain Ridge's next plays on Wednesday, a home game against Gilbert at 3:45. Mountain View plays again on Friday visiting Desert Ridge for a 6 p.m. start.
