46th Flowing Wells Wrestling Invite attracts 38 teams

Sunnyside has won eight of the 12 Flowing Wells Wrestling Invitationals in the new millennium. The Blue Devils seek to become the first repeat winner of the tournament since 2008  this weekend. Thirty-seven other schools will try to deny Sunnyside that repeat at the 46th Flowing Wells Invitational Friday January 13 and Saturday January 14 at Flowing Wells High School.

The first session begins Friday at 10:30 am. The second rsession commences at 7 p.m. On Saturday the third session is slated for 10 a.m. which will include consolation finals for third through sixth place. The fourth session (title matches) on Saturday are set to begin at 6 p.m.

Teams entered this year are: Amphitheater, Basha, Boulder Creek, Brophy, Canyon del Oro, Carl Hayden, Centennial, Chandler, Cibola, Cienega, Corona del Sol, Desert Mountain, Desert Vista, Eagle Crest, Colo., Flowing Wells, Hamilton, Highland, Horizon, Ironwood Ridge, Marana, Marana Mountain View, Marcos de Niza, Maryvale, Mesa Mountain View, Mingus, Montwood, Texas, Paradise Valley, Pueblo, Queen Creek, Rio Rico, Safford, Sahuarita, Silver, N.M., Socorro, Texas, Sunnyside, Thunderbird, Tucson High and Willcox.

The tournament features 15 state champion wrestlers from 2011 - Dalton Brady, Chandler; Rafael Jaimes, Cibola;  Robbie Mathers, Kendall Love and Alex Bambic, Desert Vista; Trevor Wilson and Tate Sandifer, Ironwood Ridge; Jesse Morales and Dylan Yole, Marcos de Niza; Seth Monty, Mesa Mtn. View; Justin Zaske, Mingus; Mark Lopez, Rio Rico, Trey Andrews, Safford and Noah Villalba and Daniel McCauley, Sliver NM.  Brady, Jaimes, Mathers, Morales, Monty, Andrews and Sunnyside's Cedric Gonzales are Flowing Wells returning champions.
