It didn't take long for Chandler Seton Catholic to establish its superiority in Saturday's Division IV quarterfinal playoff game against Parker.
In fact, the Sentinels needed only two plays. Quarterback Ryan Bresnahan hit receiver Adam Engelbert on a 66-yard scoring strike on the game's second play, and it set the tone in a 49-7 Seton route at Paradise Valley High School.
Bresnahan tossed six touchdowns to give him 51 on the season, and it led Seton into next week's semifinals with a perfect 12-0 record.
"It's pretty crazy," Bresnahan said about passing the 50-touchdown milestone. "But I just focus on the team."
Bresnahan was sharp all game as Parker (7-5) never had a chance to slow down the Seton attack. The junior signal-caller hooked up with Engelbert on three touchdown passes in the first half as Seton jumped out to a 28-0 lead.
The only real highlight for Parker was a 7-1/2-minute drive in the second quarter that kept the game from being completely out of control at halftime. Parker racked up six first downs on the 80-yard drive, giving it a glimmer of hope. But Seton made sure that momentum ended as soon as the second half began. The Sentinels scored touchdowns on their first three possessions to ice the win early in the third quarter.
The win now sets up a matchup everybody had been anticipating all year: Seton against undefeated and No. 1 seed Lakeside Blue Ridge for the right to go to the state championship game. "We've been focused on them all year," Bresnahan said. "We figured we would play them."
