The Ganado Lady Hornets chalked up an impressive freedom game victory, 59-44, over the Holbrook Roadrunners on Tuesday in girl's basketball ation.
Meanwhile, in boy's action, Holbrook posted a 72-42 win over Ganado in a freedom contest.
Chinle continued its winning ways, as the Wildcats knocked off the Show Low Cougars, 76-50, in boy's action on Tuesday night.
GIRLS
GANADO 59, HOLBROOK 44
Jayla McIntosh and Abigail Benally combined for 30 points to lead Ganado offensively.
McIntosh knocked down a game high 18 points. Benally tallied 12 points in a winning effort.
Ganado held a 10-7 first quarter advantage. The Lady Hornets outscored the Roadrunners, 19-13, for a 29-20 halftime lead.
Ganado extended its lead to 49-33, after outscoring Holbrook, 20-13, in the third period. Holbrook tallie 11 points and Ganado canned 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Sam Billie rattled the cages for 10 points to pace Holbrook offensively.
"Ganado took it to us," said Holbrook head coach Greg Perkins. "They worked harder, shot better and were easily the better team. We are still trying to find ourselves. Some girls have to step it up."
Perkins said Ganado looked in mid-season form. Perkins added that Ganado head coach Mike Bitsuie does a great job with his team.
"We have a lot of work to do," Perkins said.
Ganado, 3-1, plays three games on Friday in the Sedona Red Rock basketball tournament. Ganado faces Phoenix Maryvale at 12 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., Ganado meets Dysart. Ganado takes on Chino Valley at 7:30 p.m. After Friday's Pool Play, teams will be seeded into the tournament bracket on Saturday.
Holbrook, 1-3, plays in the Round Valley tournament, December 12-14.
BOYS
HOLBROOK 72, GANADO 42
The Holbrook Roadrunners outscored the Ganado Hornets, 24-3, in the first quarter and never looked back to post a 72-42 freedom victory.
The Roadrunners extended its lead to 44-14 at halftime. Holbrook led 54-31 at the end of the third quarter. The Roadrunners outscored the Hornets, 18-11 in the fourth quarter.
Ethan Bahe led Holbrook with 13 points. Eric Baldonado and Brandon Tapaha both tallied 10 points apiece for Holbrook.
Colby Kee canned 14 points and Lane Uentillie added 12 points for Ganado.
"We played a scrappy team in Ganado that played hard from start of the game to the end of regulation tonight," said Holbrook head coach Delmar Johnson. "We had a pretty good first quarter with 24 points. I played a lot of younger players tonight to get them some experience. I did not play Kobi Koerperich and Eric Baldonado after the first quarter to give the bench a chance to play some quality minutes. It was a good win for us."
Holbrook, 5-3, is competing in the Round Valley tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Ganado, 0-4, is entered in the Choice Wireless Classic at Chinle in the Wildcat Den on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
BOYS
CHINLE 76, SHOW LOW 50
Chinle stopped the Show Low Cougars, 76-50, as the Wildcats improved to 3-1 overall.
Chinle led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats extended its lead to nine points, 34-25, at the end of the first half.
Chinle shot well in the third quarter, scorching the cords for 25 points, as Show Low canned 17 points. Chinle held a 59-42 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Cougars, 17-8, in the fourth frame.
Chinle senior standout Cooper Burbank poured in 18 points. Wildcat teammate Curtis Begay added 15 points. Chinle's Corey Nakai tallied 12 points.
Show Low's Colton McGinnis led all scorers with 20 points. Thaddeus Carlyonm netted 15 points for the Cougars.
Chinle, 3-1, has a first round bye in the Choice Wireless Classic in the Wildcat Den in Chinle on Thursday. The Wildcats face the winner of Red Mesa and Ganado game at 7:30 p.m.
Show Low, 3-2, is competing in the Round Valley tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
