The Knights double-wing offense continues to dominate running for 354 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Last Friday Gilbert Christian (4-2) defeated the ALA-Ironwood Warriors (0-6) 33-14. Gilbert Christian was looking to rebound from their homecoming loss to River Valley (4-1) last week and they did just that. The Knights rushing attack came to life as they ran for 354 yards and 5 touchdowns despite playing without leading rusher Weston Zierer (1).

Brody Curtner (7) breaks free on one of 3 touchdown runs.

The Knights received the opening kickoff and moved the ball into Warriors territory before fumbling to end the drive. Following a Warriors punt, Gilbert Christian marched 95 yards to score the games first touchdown when Brody Curtner (7), a tight end playing wing-back due to injuries at the position, ran in from 16 yards out making it 7-0. Sophomore Matt Hershey (5) made his first start at quarterback and completed a 14-yard pass to tight end Nigel Stanbury (40) which would set up Curtner’s 2nd touchdown of the game making it 14-0 Knights. ALA-Ironwood would score before the half but missed the point after leading to a 14-6 GCHS halftime lead. Early in the third quarter, Curtner scored again, this time he broke free for a 48 yard TD rush. The Knights would extend the lead further when Marcus McWilliams (16) scored with under a minute to go in the third quarter making it 27-6.  After ALA-Ironwood answered with a touchdown and successful 2 point conversion Gilbert Christian would score again when left guard Joe Dickerson (63) recovered a fumble in the endzone to extend the Knights lead to 33-14. McWilliams would seal the Gilbert Christian win when he intercepted the Warriors in the end zone ending the scoring threat and allowing the Knights to run out the clock.

Gilbert Christian will turn their attention to Bourgade Catholic (4-1) who is coming off a 58-13 win over Kingman Academy (1-3). After defeating Bourgade Catholic in both 2016 and 2017 by a combined score of 80-27 the Knights fell on the road last year to the Eagles 38-7. ALA-Ironwood will still search for their first win of the year against San Tan Foothills (1-4) next week. Gilbert Christian and Bourgade Catholic will play on Friday, October 4th at Gilbert Christian High School at 7:00 pm. The game is Gilbert Christian’s “Crush Cancer Game” and is also one of the options for this week's 12 sports Friday Night Fever Game of the Week, You can vote for Gilbert Christian vs Bourgade Catholic at the link below!
