Tuba City Warriors, Kayenta Monument Valley Mustangs, Alchesay Falcons and Winslow Bulldogs chalked up victories in prep football action this past weekend.

Tuba City 12, Hopi 6

Tuba City head coach Vincent Lee won his first game as the Warriors' skipper.

Tuba City defeated nearby rival Hopi Bruins, 12-6, in a freedom game.

Despite the victory, Lee said the Warriors' offense was plagued throughout the game with turnovers. Tuba City lost three fumbles and one pass was intercepted. Lee said the Warriors young offense, which includes seven underclassmen struggled with turnovers and penalties.

Lee said the Warriors' youth are showing growth with positive and big plays. He said the Warriors' young offensive line, including two freshmen and two sophomores, showed great growth and continue to improve.

"The defense continues to be the strength of the team, as they dominate and forced many three and out," Lee said. "The defense also managed to break up several passes and recorded two interceptions (Seth Brown and Preston Jackson). Seth Brown led the team with seven tackles, one pass interception and one sack."

Lee commended Hopi and head coach Raleigh Namoki for their effort.

"Hopi played with tremendous heart and never relented," Lee said. "They did not make it easy and fought to the end. Coach (Raleigh) Namoki should be extremely proud of his team for the effort and heart they played with. It was a tough defensive game."

Tuba City rushed for 163 yards. Sophomore Julius Hernandez and junior Seth Brown both rushed for 42 yards. Senior Marcal Whiterock added 41 rushing yards. Junior Nick Yazzie netted 38 yards on the ground.

Tuba City senior Brent Joshevama caught two passes for 103 yards and two touchdown passes.

Kayenta Monument Valley 21, Red Mesa 12

Monument Valley sophomore quarterback Andrew Sheppard completed 10-of-24 passes for 98 yards and three touchdown passes to help lead the Mustangs to a 21-12 victory over Red Mesa in a freedom game.

Additionally, Sheppard rushed for 101 yards on 14 carries. Mustangs' Cairen Calamity rushed for 67 yards on eight carries.

For the game, Monument Valley rushed for 176 yards and passed for 98 yards.

Sheppard threw a 13 yard touchdown pss to Albrandon Byjoe in the first quarter. Leo Langer tacked on the PAT with a kick.

Langer was on the receiving end of Sheppard's pass, scoring from four yards in the second quarter. Langer's kick was good.

Sheppard found Devaughn Poorman for an eight yard scoring strike in the second quarter. Langer's kick was good.

On the receiving end, Stephan Hale caught three passes for 41 yards. Byjoe hauled in two passes for 31 yards and one touchdown. Ryles Holiday had one catch for five yards. Poorman had one catch for eight yards and one touchdown. Langer caught one pass for four yards, one touchdown and three PAT kicks.

Monument Valley head coach Bryan Begay said all the hard the Mustangs put in during the off season, the summer and fall camp showed during its victory.

"To come out Friday night and get a victory .... that was tremendous for our guys," Begay said. "I'm just so happy for them. Because it validates all the things that we've been doing, talking about. And I told them I want this to become the norm. So, hopefully we'll come out with another great week of practice this coming week."

Begay continued, "We talk about how it's all about preparation and in a short turnaround, those guys did a phenomenal job. Obviously, we're in this business to win football games and we want to do it the right way. I think that it validates what we've been doing. With the youth of our players and showing them what it feels like to be in a winning locker room is huge. I think what we were able to do Friday night is get a lot of guys on the field. We played a ton of players. A lot of guys got action. And for them to get in there and celebrate this, having played, is special to them, and I'm just happy for those guys. That's what it boils down to. I'm just happy for the players."

Pima 34, Alchesay 16

The Pima Roughriders posted a 34-16 victory over the Alchesay Falcons in prep football action.

Pima raced out to a 18-8 lead at the end of the first half. The Roughriders added 16 points in the second half, while Alchesay managed eight points.

Alchesay rushed for 243 yards and the Falcons failed to complete any passes for the game.

Davin Parker rushed for 115 yards on 21 carries, scoring a touchdown. Hunter Kasey scored a touchdown, while rushing for 18 yards on three carries. Elisha Walker added 78 yards on nine rushes.

Alchesay head coach Brandon Newcomb said he was disappointed with the Falcons' start of the game.

"We were slow, sluggish and a bit uninspired," Newcomb said. "I feel we need to be better focused and committed during our week of practice. That is my responsibility as the head coach to make that happen."

Newcomb said the Falcons open Region play at Valley Sanders this week. He expects a battle.

"They are much improved from recent years," Newcomb said. "They are coming off a tremendous come from behind victory against Laguna Acoma, out of New Mexico. That will have them excited for this week. Marquette Thompson reminded me of Johnny Manziel when he was at Texas A&M. We will have a plan to keep him in the pocket. They also have an electrifying freshman in Keshawn Crocker, that can burn us."

Winslow 45, Chinle 0

Winslow senior Mason Scott rushed for 133 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns to help lead the Bulldogs to a 45-0 shutout over the Chinle Wildcats in a freedom game.

Sophomore quarterback Jace Lyons rushed for 30 yards on two carries and a touchdown. Senior Canyon Brimhall had 70 yards on the ground on two carries and one touchdown. Junior Aiden Kislingbury rushed for 24 yards on four carries and a touchdown. Kislingbury added a second touchdown.

Lyons completed one-of-two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown pass. On the receiving end, sophomore Gabe Meunier cufhr one pass for 65 yards. Kislingbury hauled in one pass for 15 yards.
