Youthful mistakes and inexperience hampered the Monument Valley Mustangs throughout the night.

Winslow evened its season record at 1-1 with the win. The Bulldogs host the Page Sand Devils, 0-2, this Friday in a freedom game at 7 p.m.
Monument Valley is 0-1 on the young season. The Mustangs will be on the road in Queen Creek, Arizona, taking on American Leadership Academy, 2-0, this Friday in a freedom game at 7 p.m.
Monument Valley head coach Bryan Begay said the Mustangs did not play the way they needed to.
"Offensively and defensively, we have to really get all 11 guys doing their job on every play," Begay said. "We had some tough luck early with some dropped passes, bad tackling, youthful mistakes and inexperience. Our tackling is bad. As a staff, we have to do a better job of putting our players in position to make plays. As players, we have to execute the call, make sure we trust our teammates to do their job and I do my job."
Monument Valley began the scoring. Sophomore quarterback Andrew Sheppard threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Vevaughn Poorman for a 6-0 lead.
Winslow went on a run, scoring 37 unanswered points in the first, second and third quarters.
Winslow's Robert Wilbanks scored four of the Bulldogs' five touchdowns during the rally.

Monument Valley's Sheppard ended the Mustangs' scoring drought on a 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Bulldog signal-caller Lyons scored on a 5-yard run, ending Winslow's scoring for the night.
In the fourth quarter, Monument Valley battled back. Winslow was leading, 44-14, when the Mustangs mounted a comeback.
Mustang quarterback Sheppard threw a 15-yard scoring strike to Stephen Hale. Sheppard hit Ryles Holiday for the two-point PAT.
Monumern Valley added a pair of rushing touchdowns. Mustang Benson Jones for a 16-yard touchdown. Devaughn Poorman entered pay dirt on a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Sheppard completed a pass to Albrandon Byjoe for a two-point PAT.
Begay said the Mustangs made improvements during the course of the game.
"We did a better job of running the football," Begay said. "We did a better job of blocking to run the football and our receivers got in good position to catch the football. For the most part, I'm glad we competed and never gave in. We had a great experience and will learn from the Winslow game."
